First Carborundum Series

These Carborundum etchings were produced after I visited Atelier Pasnic in Paris. I was very taken with the technique because of the directness of approach. Using a paintbrush suited my style and the creation of true blacks, often elusive in taille douce, was very appealing to me.

Instead of using metal or perspex as a base, I used straw board coated with layers of shellac. The plate is then printed in the same way as an etching on metal.
