Carborundum Etching

During a trip to Paris in 2015 I discovered a small studio called Atelier Pasnic run by two printers, Pascal Guavard and Nicholas du Mesnil. Sadly they both passes away in 2019.

I was very excited to see an etching technique that did not use mordants (acid) or need metal as a base. I immediately adopted/adapted the technique and found it very satisfying because of the freedom of working directly on the surface with a brush.

In the series of abstract carborundum prints I used masking tape and chine colle paper to introduce geometry and light.
